Support for your iTero Element™ scanner will end effective January 1, 2026.
Dear Align Customer,
Support for your iTero Element™ scanner will end effective January 1, 2026 (the “End of Support Date”). All other scanner models are unaffected. It is essential to understand what this means for your practice – and what actions you can take now to avoid disruptions.
It is essential to understand what this means for your practice – and what actions you can take now to avoid disruptions.
End of Support: What it means:
Starting January 1, 2026, your iTero Element scanner will no longer be supported by Align. As previously communicated, Align will no longer provide maintenance or support for the iTero Element scanner after the End of Support Date. This includes:
- No hardware repairs
- No software updates or bug fixes
- No security updates
- No service plan enrollment. Any existing service plans associated with this scanner model will expire and will not be extended beyond the End of Support Date.
Following the End of Support Date, provided your iTero Element scanner is functioning properly, and subject to the implications and limitations detailed below, you may still be able to:
- Scan patients
- Transfer scans and submit for Invisalign® clear aligner treatment
- Send scans to your lab
- View past scans (see data storage limitations below) up to and including December 31, 2032
Utilize specific applications (e.g., iTero™ TimeLapse technology, iTero Occlusogram) directly on your scanner, as long as the scanner is functional.
Important note: While these core functions may remain available, the performance of on-scanner applications and features will gradually degrade over time. Align will no longer provide replacements or fixes for failures that occur on your iTero Element scanner.
Align reserves the right to sunset applications or discontinue at any time the availability of any applications or their connections to Align networks should Align determine that there is a potential risk to security or networks. These applications will not be replaced for iTero Element scanners, as newer versions are not compatible with the outdated Windows 8 operating system. As a result, the associated functionality will be permanently lost.
Implications for your practice:
1. Hardware risk:
If your scanner encounters a hardware issue, it will no longer be eligible for repair services by Align Technology.
Note: As of January 1, 2026, trade-in eligibility will no longer apply to iTero Element scanners.
2. Software and feature limitations:
- Please note that the iTero Element scanner runs on the Windows 8 operating system, which is no longer supported by Microsoft. As a result, certain software and features may no longer receive updates and could gradually become unavailable. When this occurs, a replacement will not be possible due to compatibility constraints between newer applications and the older Windows 8 operating system. You will receive a notice before the sunset date to ensure sufficient time for planning the transition.
- Starting in 2026, updates that provide single sign-on for other iTero scanners and the MyiTero™ portal will no longer be compatible with your iTero Element scanner. This means if you wish to continue using your iTero Element scanner, you will need to manage two separate logins: one for your iTero Element scanner and another for your other accounts.
- The iTero Element scanner will not be able to access or view orders created with the use of other scanners within the same clinic.
3. Security and compliance risk:
Align is committed to addressing and minimizing security and data protection-related risks in the products we design, develop, and maintain. Because your iTero Element scanner will not receive security updates as of January 1, 2026, we encourage you to carefully consider this factor when using the scanner after the End of Support Date.
In certain cases of security vulnerabilities, Align may determine it appropriate to permanently disconnect any scanner from cloud services. This means that cloud-based functionality, such as data transfer to the MyiTero portal, data download, and scan transfer, may no longer be available.
Data security and access to the MyiTero portal:
To ensure data continuity and compliance with Align's Data Retention Policy, all your scan data will remain accessible on the MyiTero portal up to and including December 31, 2032, subject to applicable local laws and regulations. To avoid potential loss, we recommend establishing alternative data storage arrangements for your records ahead of time.
Detailed instructions on how to download your data from the MyiTero portal can be found here.
Your next steps:
We encourage all iTero Element customers to contact an Align sales representative and authorized distributors to explore available trade-in options.
As you plan ahead, please note that once a scanner reaches End of Support effective January 1, 2026, it may no longer be eligible for trade-in value. We want to ensure you have ample time to consider your options and make the best decision for your practice.
Benefits of upgrading:
- Seamless workflow: Full compatibility and uninterrupted operations
- Next-Gen features: Access to the latest tools and performance improvements
- Data security: Ongoing security updates to keep your patient data safe
Thank you for being a valued customer,
The iTero team
